Nagercoil is a quiet and peaceful town in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is a pristine green city in the southernmost tip of India. The city got its name from the legendary Nagaraja Temple. The city is the administrative headquarters of Kanyakumari. It is popularly known as ‘Nagarammankoil’ by the native people.

The city was ruled by many kingdoms which included the Cholas, Cheras, and Pandyas. Several historical records reveal that these kingdoms wanted to gain control over the fertile area of Kottar and Nanjilnadu and fought several battles as a result of it. Archaeological records also reveal the significant influence of Jain culture in the ancient times. Until 1956, the city was a part of Kerala, but now, it is a part of Tamil Nadu.
