Mathura is a city in Uttar Pradesh. It is the administrative hub of Mathura District. Mathura has been selected as one of the heritage cities for HRIDAY - Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana scheme of Government of India.

Mathura has an ancient history and is also the homeland and birthplace of Krishna. According to the Archaeological Survey of India, the city is mentioned in the oldest Indian epic, the Ramayana.

The geographic coordinates of Mathura is 27.4924° north and 77.6737° east. It is located approximately 50 kilometers north of Agra, and 145 kilometers (90 mi) southeast of Delhi, 11 kilometers from Vrindavan and 22 kilometers from Govardhan.

The climate of Mathura is tropical extreme. In summer, temperature goes beyond 44 °C. Average rainfall is 593 mm, received mostly during between July to September.

Mathura has a lot of industrial plants. The textile printing industry which includes both sari-printing and fabric dyeing, the silver ornaments manufacturing units are major industrial contributors to the region.

Mathura has grown into a major tourist hub and has gained a lot of popularity because of its beautiful places. Some tourist attractions here are -Baldeo (Dauji Mandir), Lohwan Mata Mandir, Shri Ratneshwar Mahadev, Gopinath Maharaj Mandir, Keshav Dev Temple (Shri Krishna Janma Bhoomi) and Vishram Ghat (Bank of River Yamuna).

Some of the local places here are- Radha Kund, Vishram Ghat, Ghats, Chaurasi-khamba, and Sri Keshavji Gaudiya Math.

Mathura is well connected by train to major cities in India. Mathura is well connected by road to the rest of Uttar Pradesh and India. As of now, the city has no airport.
