Nadiad – The Gem of Gujarat

Nadiad is one of the developed cities in the state of Gujarat. It is located in the Kheda district. It is known as ‘Sakshar Bhoomi’, The Land of the Educated. The city has very important contributions in the field of literature. Famous scholars like Govardhanram Tripathi, Zaverilal Yagnik, Manilal Dwivedi and Chaganlal Pandya hail from this city.

The city of Nadiad is believed to have been developed by rope dancers. The former historical name of the city was “Natapadra” or “Natpur”. In the beginning, the city has been ruled by the Muslims but later it went into the hands of Gaikwads of Baroda. The city was also referred to as Nandgam.

The climate of Nadiad is classified as tropical. The average temperature of the region is 27.3^o C. The annual precipitation in the region is 919 mm. In July rainfall reaches its peak with the average rainfall of 378 mm. February is the driest month.

The economy of Nadiad is primarily based on the cultivation of cotton and production of tobacco. The region is known as Golden Leaf since it is the major producer of tobacco in the state. Nadiad is the industrial center of the district. Some of the industries in the district are electrical equipment, textile, food processing and paper.

Regular buses are available from Nadiad bus depot to neighboring cities. The city doesn’t have an airport. The nearest airports are Ahmedabad (47 km) and Vadodara (53 km).
